.) No water additives for your Christmas trees. Aspirin, sugar, corn syrup, or bleach are common "tips" to keep trees vital longer, but these substances can cause harm if your dog or cat drinks the water.

.) Keep ornaments higher up on your tree and otherwise out of reach of your pet. Broken ornaments can cause injuries and ingested ornaments can cause intestinal blockage or even toxicity.

.) Planning a holiday party this year? Make sure your pet has access to a quiet space away from all the excitement. Watch the exits and remind guests not to let your pet outside. Make sure your pet is properly identified and microchipped and that their registry information is current.

.) Remember people food is most often too fatty for a dog's digestive system. Cases of acute pancreatitis spike around the holidays. Often the reason for this spike is due to many people thinking a nice way to celebrate is to share their holiday meal with their dog.

.) Taking your pet traveling this holiday season? If you have any concerns about car or air travel, give us a call to discuss ways to help make your trip as comfortable as possible for your pet. Or, if you plan on boarding your pet, give us a call to make sure your pet is up to date on  his or her vaccinations, including canine flu, which is commonly spread in boarding facilities.

.) keep important contact information handy:
our phone number, a number to the emergency clinic and local shelter, also a number to Animal Poison Control. The holidays usually mean odd hours for businesses, be sure you have all the information you need at your fingertips should a situation arise.
